Elevation changes across the High Country mean the color often works its way down the mountains over a period of weeks rather than appearing everywhere on the same weekend. Higher elevations generally begin changing first, while Boone and lower valleys follow.

The Mountaineers opened September with Maine, East Carolina and Charlotte before turning toward a schedule filled with in-state competition, Sun Belt rivals and several games that could have a major impact on the conference race.

King Street gets busier. And eventually, tens of thousands of people start moving in the same direction toward The Rock.
