The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games (GMHG) were first held in 1956 and have grown into one of the most prestigious and recognized Highland gatherings in the United States. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of MacRae Meadows, this multi-day festival honors the traditions of Scottish clans and culture with competitions, ceremonies, and community.

What started as a regional event has since become an international draw—welcoming athletes, dancers, musicians, and clanspeople from across the globe. And it all happens just 30 minutes from downtown Boone.
